Uber

DESCRIPTION

Uber is extremely efficient and you must start by downloading the application to your smartphone. You will then need to create an account and link this account to your debit or credit card. The application will then use your GPS on your phone to locate where you are and how many drivers are close to you. You can also choose the type of car to pick you up. Once you have entered your destination and requested your car, the app will tell you where your driver is and how long he will be. The Uber taxi service is cheaper than using the famous London Taxi (black cab) but is similarly priced to a mini-cab. You don’t need cash to pay as the payment will be deducted from your account. Please bare in mind that Uber drivers can’t park outside in the taxi areas, so they need to hang around waiting for a ping. So you'll have to plan this properly. Hit your request too soon (while in the passport queue) and the driver is stuck (he can't wait long before they start chasing him). Hit it too late (when you are outside) and you might have to wait a little.

When to use Uber

You are familiar and comfortable to use apps for such bookings and can time your journey well.
You have luggage or are traveling in a group and don’t want to book a mini cab or pay more to get a London Taxi.

UBER FROM HEATHROW VIA THE APP

First you will need to download the app and create an account.
You must then request a pick-up point (choose the short stay car park) when you’re ready to walk outside – make sure you choose a ride option that suits your group size and luggage storage needs.
Exit on the arrivals level – Head to the short stay car park at your terminal. This is where all Uber driver-partners at LHR meet travellers for pickup.
Look for your driver – if you can’t find you driver, then contact him or her through the app by phone.
Our tip - if this is your first ride then use the promo code: FreeRideUK. This is valid in the UK only on the first ride up to £15. The code expires on 02/01/2020.
