Trafalgar Square is one of the most famous and most beautiful squares in London and features various statues including the well-known Lion statues and the iconic Nelson’s Column. The square is situated in the middle of several important historical and tourist attractions. Walk along Whitehall and you will arrive at the Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, passing by Downing Street where the Prime Minister lives and see the soldiers who protect the Queen. If you walk down The Mall you will arrive at Buckingham Palace with St. James’s Park on your left. Whilst on the square itself you will find the National Gallery, perfect for those fond of high art. The vibrant and lively square is home to lots of shows and concerts held at different times of the year. *Facts about Trafalgar Square: It is said that the name Trafalgar Square was taken from an Arabic name, which is El Taraf al Agar, which means “the other party” and is located in Central London, in the area of Charing Cross. The very famous battle of Trafalgar took place during the Napoleonic Wars with Spain and France against Great Britain and other European powers on the 21st of October 1805. Admiral Lord Nelson died at the Battle of Trafalgar. Nelson’s Column is a monument that commemorates the Admiral’s naval conquests and victories on the great seas.
