Tower of London

DESCRIPTION

The Tower of London is one of London’s most famous signature landmarks and and overlooks the River Thames. The tower’s stunning design and architecture makes the perfect background for any picture, with the river flowing beneath it and The Shard also in view. It is ideally located between Tower Bridge and London Bridge, with City Hall in front of it. Once you cross the bridge there are several restaurants and cafes guaranteed to suit your needs. The Shard, housing many luxury restaurants, and Borough Market, one of the best food markets in London, are both just a short walk away. *Facts about The Tower of London: The Tower was built in 1066 by William the Conqueror as a defence system for the Royal Palace. The tower holds over 235,000 jewels, which were moved there after the Jewel House was demolished. The tower was also used for executions and as a prison. 22 executions were held in the tower, the last being in 1941 for a German spy, and the seat on which he was shot is still preserved at the Royal Armouries’ artefacts store. A Royal Zoo was established at the Tower of London in the 1200s and stayed there for 600 years.
